VP of Business Development

Position Summary:

The Vice President, Business Development is responsible for identifying, targeting, and establishing initial relationships with a steady stream of qualified leads and prospects for Client Company’s full range of services. This is a frontline sales and marketing role, dealing with sophisticated B2B clients–from middle management to senior executives—who are currently or are considering outsourcing product innovation, development, regulatory and manufacturing programs to solve business challenges or measurably improve results.

Position Requirements:

The most important requirement for this position is a demonstrable track record of success in business development in a similar consulting/professional services environment, as well as experience in product innovation and development and a strong knowledge of the medical device industry and its related regulatory requirements.

  • Bachelors degree and preferably MBA
  • 10+ years of experience in business development roles.
  • 20+ years of overall medical device industry experience.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills that include listening, speaking, presentation, and writing. Must be able to work with and relate to a wide range of technical, design, marketing, and business professionals. Must have confidence and ease in dealing with an executive-level clientele. Outstanding phone skills are a must.
  • An established, relevant network within medical and healthcare technology
  • Must understand the medical device industry, as well as related product development, regulatory, and manufacturing processes
  • Must be equally adept in delivering high-level strategic messages as well as describing specific details of technical capabilities.
  • Must be an expert at consultative selling; demonstrate an innate ability to establish rapport with an audience, lead a conversation, listen and discover needs, and recommend solutions
  • Must know how to close—from getting a meeting to closing a deal
  • Must be an engaging and compelling public speaker
  • Must have excellent PowerPoint and presentation building skills
  • Must be highly detail and task oriented, and results-driven
  • Tenacious and patient; able to take a long view to client development
  • Must have expertise in using current marketing and communications media (e.g. social media, web, etc.) as part of an effective new business program
  • Must be highly motivated and self-directed
  • Must be comfortable being measured on tangible outcomes
  • Must demonstrate the highest level of integrity and ethics
